Good defense is not only catching the ball, but also knowing when to throw the ball.

Remember, when you’re watching the ball to the plate, you’re not watching the ball out of the pitcher’s hand. You should pick an area in front of the plate, before the ball goes into the hitting zone, and concentrate on that particular area

The first thing to do with children— especially if they’re afraid of being hit by a pitch—is to let them know that if they get hit by a ball, it will probably hurt. Period. A lot of times dads, brothers, uncles or coaches will get a little macho and tell a child that the ball won’t hurt. “Don’t be a sissy.” I’m here to tell you that the ball does hurt. I think if we tell kids that fact at an early age, when they do get hit and it does hurt, they might cry, but the pain won’t make them quit playing baseball.
